VIVARIUM FOUNDATION CONDUCTED A NEW WORKSHOP OF OFIDIOLOGY

IN COORDINATION WITH CEFOSIEM CARABOBO INTEGRATED SYSTEM TRAINING CENTER


On Thursday, September 9, 2021, the Vivarium Foundation @fundacionvivarium gave the workshop: Prevention of Ophidic Accident at the headquarters of Civil Protection Carabobo (Venezuela), where topics such as antivenoms available in South America and advances in their manufacture were discussed. Likewise, the global problem caused by snake bites was discussed. In 2017 the World Health Organization (WHO) officially announced that snakebite poisonings have been included in the list of Neglected Tropical Diseases in category A, that is, among the diseases with the greatest impact on world health . The decision issued by the WHO will allow the nations involved to develop better control programs aimed at the prevention and adequate therapeutic management of this pathology.


The Vivarium Foundation, aware of the need to educate on ophidian accident prevention, managed to join forces with the Training Center of the Integrated System: Civil Protection and Firefighters of the Carabobo State @centrodeformacioncarabobo to train the personnel of these institutions. The invitation was extended to the personnel of the Land Transit Brigade, who were present


The event was attended by the Coordinator of the Office of Biological Diversity of the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism Lic. Lérida Izaguirre @utec.carabobo and the Tcnl. Ángel Vásquez @shihan_vasquez Director of CEFOSIEM. During the workshop, topics such as: characteristics of poisonous snakes and their habits were discussed; Corals and false corals; Clinic and pre-hospital treatment of the bitten patient as well as advice and recommendations to avoid the ophidian accident.
